INDIRECT TENSILE TESTING
Brazilian test is an indirect but convenient method of determining the tensile strength of cement mortar and rock specimens. The specimen is subject to failure under compression loading and the tensile strength is determined with the help of well established correlations.

BRAZILIAN TEST APPARATUS :
This is for conducting Brazilian Test on 75mm dia X 25mm thick samples and can be used for compression test on 70.6 mm cement mortar cubes also. It consists of a hand operated hydraulic jack provided with self retracting piston fixed on the base of a load frame. Loads are recorded on a pressure gauge 0 - 50 KN X 0.5KN and a maximum pointer is provided with for the breaking load indication. Semi cylindrical loading strips are provided for Brazilian test and two ground platens are provided for compression test.
